MineShaft Pasty Co. Breathes New Life Into Classic Montana Eats
MineShaft Pasty Co. in Hamilton, Montana, offers both traditional and creative pasties along with a variety of baked goods and drinks.
Once upon a time, someone had the good sense to bring the Cornish pasty to Montana. Popular in Butte for decades due to the fact that it's easy to eat (and then get right back to work as a miner), this classic meat dish quickly spread around Montana, and for that we are thankful. Six years ago, MineShaft Pasty Co. opened in Hamilton, adding a few tasty twists on this classic.
MineShaft Pasty Co. is located at 111 N 2nd St. in downtown Hamilton.
The restaurant was opened by Scott and Kristin, who had worked in the insurance industry for over a decade and were ready for something new.
With a lot of hard work and the help of Kristin's family, Hamilton soon gained a new pasty shop.
Needless to say, it was an instant hit.
A traditional pasty is a half-moon-shaped shell stuffed with chopped (not minced) meat and vegetables, typically including potatoes and onions, covered with gravy.
On any given day, you can order a traditional pasty here.
But at MineShaft Pasty Co., you'll also have the option to go for a more creative version of the pasty.
The offerings vary depending on what's available or how inspired the team is feeling. This is the Kickn' Chicken, which includes pulled chicken, wing sauce, bleu cheese, potato, and onion. Yum!
In addition to selling the best pasties ever, this place is also a full bakery, and it's fantastic.
From freshly baked cinnamon rolls to morning scones and specialty cupcakes, you'll find a little bit of everything sweet in the display case.
MineShaft also sells some seriously creative drinks.
This is a Huckleberry Green Tea Frap. Yes, please.
MineShaft Pasty Co. is open Monday - Friday, so keep that in mind if you live out of town.
Their website lists their hours as 8:30 a.m. - 4:20 p.m.
What's your opinion on non-traditional pasties? Have you ever been to the MineShaft Pasty Co.?
