The Historic Marysville House Restaurant In Montana Has One Of The Most Unique Backstories You’ll Ever Hear
Marysville House Restaurant, located in the historic mining town of Marysville, Montana, offers delicious food and a rich local history.
It's hard to believe that the tiny community of Marysville (population 43 at last count) was once a booming mining town. But in the 1880s and 1890s, it was considered the center of Montana gold mining. While there may not be much of a town left, Marysville is home to the beloved Marysville House Restaurant. This historic gem is loaded with local history, and the food just happens to be fantastic.
You'll find Marysville House on Main Street in the center of town, where it has been for well over a century.
This old building once served as the "Silver City" Great Northern Railroad Station, back when this bustling mining town was known as Silver City.
The train stopped here daily on its way from Helena to Great Falls and on to Fort Benton.
Even though the train hasn't stopped here for decades, there's still evidence of the former town all over Main Street. The building that is now Marysville House stood vacant for many years until it was acquired by a local resident in 1975 and turned into a bar and restaurant.
Marysville House hasn't served as a train station for decades, but you'll still find evidence of its history throughout the restaurant.
The current dining room was once the freight and baggage room. The bar served as a space for passengers and the Station Master.
The restaurant's ownership has changed several times over the last few decades, but the quality of the food remains consistently delicious.
This might be one of the only restaurants in the area, but it's far from the last resort. In fact, people often drive from Helena and beyond to dine here.
You'll find plenty of hearty entree options on the dinner menu here, but the specialty is definitely the steaks.
Whether you opt for a ribeye, a porterhouse, or a special cut, you won't be disappointed.
The restaurant has a full bar, so if you imbibe, you can start your evening off with your favorite cocktail.
Either way, the delicious food alone makes this place well worth the drive.
Marysville House is open Wednesday - Saturday from 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. for dinner, and on Sunday from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.
The kitchen opens at 5 p.m.
