If you've ever been to Red Lodge, you know how charming and welcoming the little mountain town is. And if you've ever visited between spring and fall, you may have even seen a line out the door of Montana's one-of-a-kind eatery, Red Box Car. This burger joint is located in a century-old boxcar, and it's fantastic.

Red Box Car is located at 1300 N Broadway Ave. in Red Lodge.

They're typically open from April through September, depending on how well the weather cooperates.

The Red Box Car was once a functioning box car, traveling from Laurel to Red Lodge in the early 1900s.

After the local spur was shut down, many of the box cars were sold or given to the locals.

This particular box car was sitting abandoned in Roberts when June & Ed Alquist, along with the help of Ron & Shirley Kotar, moved it to Red Lodge to open the Red Box Car in 1972.

The restaurant was purchased by Lori & Jim Davis in 1999, and it's now run by their family.

The menu has expanded since the restaurant's opening, but it still has the same classics: Burgers, fries, onion rings, salads, and wraps.

The burgers are made from fresh Certified Angus Beef, and they're delicious.

When this laid back eatery is open for the season, you can visit the drive thru or enjoy your meal onsite.

They have a spacious outdoor dining area so you can dine by the creek.

Typical hours for the restaurant are 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
