The Most Beautiful Canyon In America Is Right Here In Missouri… And It Isn’t The Grand Canyon
Most of us will likely agree that Missouri’s beauty goes unrivaled. From its sandy beaches and shimmering lakes to its chiseled caves and sprawling forests, the landscape is simply spectacular. Did you know that Missouri also has its very own, albeit much smaller, Grand Canyon? It might just be the most beautiful canyon in America, making it one of those natural wonders you really have to explore to appreciate.
Straddling the border of Missouri and Arkansas, Grand Gulf State Park in Koshkonong is home to one of Missouri's most majestic natural wonders - the Little Grand Canyon.
A mile-long series of collapsed caves flanked by 130-foot walls on two sides create the mini Grand Canyon. You can view it along a one-mile hiking trail.
Informational placards along the path illustrate how the canyon was formed.
Unfortunately, due a series of stairs, the trail is not accessible. Because of the stairs and some inclines, the Interpretive Loop Trail scores a moderate rating.
Bring your camera along for your journey along this picturesque path that features several scenic vistas. You'll have the opportunity to view the canyon from several vantage points.
What do you think is the most beautiful canyon in America? The one at Grand Gulf State Park in Missouri or another? Let us know in the comments! Did you know that there’s a dark sky park in Missouri, too, that’s perfect for an evening of stargazing?
