Buford Mountain State Forest Trail is a 9.1-mile loop trail located in Buford Mountain Conversation Area near Ironton.

This trail isn’t for the faint of heart – it requires you to trek through miles of (gorgeous) wilderness and gains about 1,860 feet in elevation.

Along the way, you’ll pass beautiful scenery that will keep you motivated to complete the full hike. Expect to spy charming ponds, towering trees, and the occasional old charcoal kiln.

The trail is mostly even, but there may be some patches of rough or muddy terrain depending on recent weather. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and consider bringing a change of socks.

Once you reach the top of Fouth peak, you’ll forget your aching calves. The views from this overlook are truly magnificent.
