You don't have to go to an expensive, fancy restaurant in Minnesota to get a good meal. On the contrary, some of our very best eateries are old-school joints that are as affordable as they are delicious. They serve up tasty meals from a menu full of old favorites that never seem to change. That's certainly true of one longstanding restaurant in Northeast Minneapolis. This spot has been around for years, and people continue to visit thanks to their excellent hot dogs. It may not be fancy, but Uncle Franky's is a local favorite that has more than a dozen great hot dogs on the menu. Take a look:
Uncle Franky's is an unassuming restaurant with a few locations scattered through the Twin Cities. But the first — and arguably the best — is the original Northeast Minneapolis location.
Step inside, and you'll be greeted by a typical diner. A long counter at the front holds stools for guests who want to be part of the kitchen action.
The tables along the opposite wall are great if you prefer a more intimate meal or if you have a larger group. They also offer a great vantage point for the comings and goings in this busy restaurant.
During the warmer months, you can even eat outside on Uncle Franky's patio! No matter where you sit, you'll be able to settle in comfortably for a delicious meal.
The menu has plenty to choose from. If you're just not in a hot dog mood, try a burger. Piled high with all the fixings, it will fill you up fast.
But Uncle Franky's is really known for its hot dogs. There are more than a dozen options on the menu, each as flavorful as the last. The Chicago dog is a classic, with mustard, relish, pickle, onion, and sport peppers.
Or you may crave the meaty, delicious coney dog. The hot dog is topped with beef, onion, and mustard. Yum!
There are many other choices as well. The Wall Street dog comes with sauerkraut. There are even Polish dogs on the menu, all piled high with toppings.
Of course, no hot dog meal is complete without fries or tots! Make your order a basket, and consider adding a malt on the side. Uncle Franky's will soon become your favorite spot for a simple, delicious meal.
Have you been to Uncle Franky's? They're open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, check out their Facebook page.
