Spring is in the air! And for Minnesotans, it gives us a lot to look forward to. Not only will there soon be seemingly endless days of fresh air and sunshine. There will also be even more beauty in our already beautiful state in the form of birds, butterflies, and blooms. You can see each of these just by going outside. But if you're willing to drive a bit, consider planning a trip to a dreamy peony farm in Kenyon, Minnesota. Here's what you need to know:
Aspelund Peony Gardens is a peony farm in Kenyon, Minnesota. This small town is about 60 miles south of the Twin Cities, making it an excellent day trip for those in the metro area.
The garden is nestled in among southern Minnesota's beautiful farmland. When the peonies are in bloom, they add a lovely rainbow of color across the green expanse.
When it is open in the spring, visitors can come and enjoy the flower garden. They are usually open on weekend days from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
There are more than 50 peony varieties on display. The flowers come in many colors. These beautiful blooms are perfect for adding a little life to any room.
Early Scout peonies are one of the first types to bloom. These beautiful pink flowers always bloom by Memorial Day.
Other varieties bloom a bit later. Your best bet is to visit in late May through the first two weeks of June. This is when you'll have the best chance of seeing many flowers!
Cut flowers are not for sale, but you can get everything you need to grow your own. Aspelund Gardens sells peony tubers and will help you figure out which plants are best for you.
As an added bonus, there is also a winery on location. These delicious Minnesota-made wines go great with a day of admiring this beautiful farm!
