This Tiny Shop In Maine Serves A Sausage Sandwich To Die For

Once you’ve tried the best of Maine’s seafood, take a moment to remember how great we are at other foods. The state has become a go-to destination for foodies and culinary experts with Portland leading the charge. The next time you’re in town, head to this spot for something that’s not seafood. From platters to sandwiches, their sausages are the best around!
The Thirsty Pig has been serving up the widest array of sausage and beer in Portland since 2010.
Owner, Allison Stevens, opened the Thirsty Pig after spending years working at various breweries, so it's not surprising that an important part of a visit is a local Maine beer pairing. There are always a variety of different brews on tap.
Things here are easy: choose your sausage, choose a way to have it prepared, take a number, get your food and enjoy a few hours over links and beers with friends.
There are a number of unique combinations that change continually. On the menu you'll find things like the Kicking’ Chicken Boudin Sausage, made with grilled peppers, onions, celery, Cajun spices and rice. On top you'll find grilled peppers and yellow mustard.
Specials include things like the Huli-Huli Sausage, which features pork sausage with soy sauce and ginger and topped with sweet pineapple relish, crispy onions and scallions.
Taco the town was a great menu addition! This Chile spiced chicken sausage had lime juice and chipotle and was topped with tajín aioli and roasted corn pico served. Served on a corn tortilla, of course.
If you just can't manage to choose one, get the sampler which includes five of their homemade links (these are always the chef's choice) served on a huge plate with tons of toppings and pickles!
They've got a great hot dog menu as well, with lots of unique items including the Spicy McFirepants which features cherry pepper relish, banana peppers, pickled jalapeños.
They also do a mean, unique themed hot dog each month. The Bahn Mi Dog included an all-beef frank in a New England bun topped with bread & butter pickled cucumber, pickled carrot, chili mayo, BBQ, and cilantro.
Or, visit in any weather to enjoy the cozy inside. Plan for a weekend night and you're likely to find live music.
