If I wrote ten paragraphs in this article, there is still no way I would be able to properly convey how much I love summer in Maine. Hiking, blueberries, lobster rolls! Every weekend is another possibility to soak up my favorite Maine season. Aside from blackflies and mosquitoes, there isn’t much I don’t like about this season. But, my absolute favorite thing is the feeling of having spent the day in the water and then enjoying a perfect summer meal. If you love summer days and that post-beach/lake/river feeling – you’ll want to check out these beachfront restaurants in Maine.

The last time we included The Lakeshore House in an article, everyone was thrilled we'd included an inland gem. So, how could we leave this lakeside beach restaurant off of this list? In addition to the cozy outside setup, they serve delicious food (we still vote yes on the onion soup) and offer a nice respite from the outdoor activities you might be engaged in throughout the area. Emma's Eats is another location that will put you as close to the water as you can be. In fact, because it's a takeout restaurant, you can technically sit IN the water eating if you'd like. Splash is the only restaurant located directly on the beach in Ogunquit. They serve every meal - including breakfast - which means you can start and end your day with a meal overlooking the water. Don't expect anything lavish - they're a fun, casual place to have a drink (even if it's your morning coffee) and smell the sea. Say what you will about The Brunswick, but we love it. With an outside area directly on the beach, along with a pathway leading to a beachy area still considered part of the property, it doesn't get much more "beachfront" that this. Come on a weekend to dance up close to 700 of your closest (new) friends. The Goldenrod has been open for 121 summers and serves up breakfast, lunch, dinner AND dessert. AND candy. It's just about the perfect spot to visit on vacation - when calories don't count. Another York Beach gem, Stone's Throw also doubles as an intimate and cozy inn. But, if it's food by the beach you're looking for - look no further. Word on the street is that the new ownership has only made things better - a hard task given how great this place was before! While the beach isn't exactly for swimming (it's more of a marsh) we think it has the same seaside vibe as many of the ones on the sand. Of course Spinney's is on the list. Folks seem to be divided over this Maine-stay (see how I did that?) but that's what happens when just about everyone you meet has been there. Try anything on the menu, especially with a side of onion rings. Parking is dicey in the parking lot, but to make up for it they've built a lovely back deck over the beach for this season!
