One Of The Most Scenic Drives In America Is Right Here In Louisiana

The Great River Road in Louisiana is celebrated for its scenic beauty and historic homes, making it one of America's most scenic drives.

We know you're already well aware of the beauty and history that's found all throughout Louisiana, but there is one particular road in the Bayou State that's received special attention. The Great River Road in Louisiana was recently named one of America's Most Scenic Roads by Travel + Leisure. Let's take a look at a few reasons why this road was chosen, and why River Road is considered to be one of the best scenic drives in Louisiana.

Though there are several other states with a Great River Road, the River Road in Louisiana is likely the most famous (and beautiful) of them all.

As you can see from the River Road map above, the Great River Road follows the Mississippi and runs through 10 states. We'll be looking at just the section of the road that runs from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. No matter where you are along the Great River Road, you'll be treated to some amazing views, but we're partial to the Louisiana portion.

Taking this route feels like traveling back in time.

This historic road is lined with some of the most stunning homes in Louisiana.

At the time that many of these buildings were constructed, the Greek Revival style of architecture was quite popular. Many of these stately mansions feature striking rows of tall pillars.

The River Road in Louisiana is only about 70 miles long, but you'll find plenty of stops to make along the route.

Of course, just admiring all the historic homes along the road is a treat. At <a href="https://www.oakalleyplantation.com/

Another ornate and architecturally unique home in the area is the San Francisco House in Garyville.

The house was once a popular tourist destination that gave daily tours, but now, it faces an uncertain future after the land was sold. It's possible that the home will be moved to a different location. You can stay updated on the property's status via the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/San.Francisco.Plantation/
