However, some spots tend to get a bit more attention than others, as is the case with today’s feature destination. Kingdom Come State Park is an immensely scenic, little known Kentucky State Park that’s peak Bluegrass beauty, and sure to capture your heart.
Kingdom Come State Park is an awe-inspiring destination in the crest of Pine Mountain in Cumberland, Kentucky.
With an elevation of 2,700 feet and several scenic overlooks, it's truly one of the most beautiful places in our state.
Situated atop Pine Mountain, this stunning 1,283-acre park has a rich history. It was named after the novel The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come, a Civil War novel written by Kentucky resident John Fox Jr. in 1903, and became a state park in 1961. Fascinating!

The park has eight overlooks, by the way, so there are plenty of opportunities for you to gaze out at the seemingly-endless scenic vistas here!
There are 14 hiking trails that crisscross nearly five miles of rugged mountain terrain at Kingdom Come State Park, providing intrepid explorers the opportunity to explore the park's giant rock formations and scenic overlooks. All of the trails are fairly short in length (under a mile), but many routes can be combined for hikes of varying lengths and difficulty.
Regular primitive campsites are $14/night and come equipped with a fire ring, picnic table, and access to restrooms. Lakeside campsites are $20/night, and you really can't beat the views!
