The trail is well-marked and quite popular, venturing past many of the features for which Kentucky is most known: gorges, canyons, caves, and, of course, waterfalls.
The trail winds through wondrous woodlands and past towering, carved-out rocks that line a scenic creek. You'll actually follow this creek for most of the hike; as a result of this rocky and wet terrain, this hike is rated "moderate," though most adventurers report breezing through this trail.
The best -- and slipperiest -- time to visit Pine Island Double Falls is early spring, as thawing snow and seasonal rains put this waterfall at its fullest.
