Is "normal" a word you would use to describe the state of Indiana? How about the people in it? Yeah, me either. The truth is, we have a lot of really weird places in Indiana. Some of these might be businesses and some of them might just be really odd attractions or places to eat. The key word to keep in mind is "weird." These places are weird! Here are some of the weirdest places you can possibly go in Indiana.
1. The Largest Egg in the World
The Mentone Egg is made entirely out of concrete and weighs roughly 3,000 pounds. It is 10 feet tall and was constructed back in 1946. It is located in Mentone, Indiana and is a hotspot for photos.
2. The Colgate Clock
Did you know one of the largest clocks in the world is located in Clarksville? It is sitting on top of the Colgate-Palmolive factory and has a diameter of 40 feet. November of 1924 was the first time it illuminated the Clarksville sky.
3. The Veal Ice Tree in Acton
I’ve shared this hidden gem before, but it is so weird it deserves to be featured more than once. This is an ice tree a family accidentally created. Since then, the family just continues to add more ice to the tree to keep the tradition alive every year. Some years, it is not uncommon for this tree to stand 80 feet tall. It is located in Acton, Indiana if you want to take a peek.
4. RV/MH Hall of Fame
Did you know there is an RV/MH hall of fame/museum located in Elkhart, Indiana? Maybe I’m alone in thinking this, but I think an entire facility dedicated to glorifying RVs and mobile homes is a little on the weird side! What do you think?
5. The Jerry Slocum Mechanical Puzzle Collection
Do you have a thing for puzzles? You will be happy to know the Jerry Slocum Mechanical Puzzle Collection, which is the largest collection of mechanical puzzles in the world, is located in Bloomington.
6. The Rotary Jail Museum
Did you know the rotary jail in Crawfordsville, Indiana was the very first spinning jail in the United States? It was opened in 1882. It is also the only rotary jail in the United States that still spins. How cool is that?
7. Rose Island
Rose Island was once a very popular amusement park located in Charlestown, Indiana. Today, ruined pieces of stone and a swimming pool are all that remain from this incredible amusement park as everything else was washed away by floods. Might not be 100 percent weird, but it is definitely a nice little hidden Indiana gem, right?
8. East Race Waterway
Did you know the very first made-made white water course in the United States cuts right through South Bend, Indiana? Neat!
9. The Roofless Church
This beautiful roofless church is located in New Harmony. The belief is the church is underneath the only roof big enough for everyone inside: the sky.
10. The World’s Largest Peach
Indiana is home to the world’s largest peach. This peach was built just seven miles away from the city of Vincennes in 1954. This is another weird, but great place to take a picture!
11. World’s Largest Sycamore Stump
Indiana is also home to the world’s largest Sycamore stump. It is located in Kokomo, if you are interested in taking a look at it in person.
Can you think of any weird places in the state of Indiana? I would love for you to share with me in the comments! Please remember to share this with your friends and let me know what you think of the places featured in this piece as well!
