What are some of the best waterfall hikes in Indiana?

Believe it or not, Indiana has 57 amazing waterfall trails, each of which is wonderful and very much worth a good hike. Some of our favorites include the awesome Clifty Falls – Hoffman Falls – Tunnel Falls Trail at Clifty Falls State Park. It’s beautiful and a true gem, especially if you’re a fan of lush greenery and forested wonder with your waterfalls. Then, there’s the awe-inspiring Hemlock Cliffs National Scenic Trail, which you can find nestled in Hoosier National Forest. It’s short, at just 1.2 miles long, and it’s rated as moderately difficult. You’ll also want to check out Trail #3 at Turkey Run State Park. That one’s just under two miles long and features some of Indiana’s most amazing landscapes. Finally, you can’t miss Falls Canyon Trail, at McCormick’s Creek State Park. That one is longer, at 4.9 miles, but it’s worth the adventure for sure. Need something easier? No worries, we got you. Check out this awesome list of Indiana waterfalls that are easy to reach.

How many waterfalls in Indiana are there?

Believe it or not, Indiana is host to at least 22 known waterfalls. Then again, it’s not terribly surprising; after all, Indiana really is one of the most beautiful states in the Midwest. Many of our amazing waterfalls can be accessed via a hike, though the lengths, difficulty levels, and seasonality of each trail vary. You can find amazing waterfall hikes in several of our state parks (those are the best state parks in Indiana if you ask us). Some of our favorite waterfall hikes in Indiana include the ones like the Upper Cataract Falls (and Lower Cataract Falls) hike, which takes you to the double waterfall that serves as Indiana’s largest falls by volume. You can find other great waterfall hikes at Turkey Run State Park, Clifty Falls State Park, Shades State Park, and more. If you haven’t seen any of our amazing waterfalls yet, you haven’t yet lived!
