If you come from the north, you'll begin your trip with a 1.6 mile hike to Indiana's second highest waterfall. This 90-foot-tall falls is picture-perfect as it plunges from its bluff. You can relax and climb all over the place and enjoy the waterfall from all angles.
Windy Ridge Winery & Distillery
Once you've had your first fill of nature, you'll be off to your first fill of wine on this best day trip. In business since 2012, this winery is comprised of six acres of vineyards and grows many types of grapes. In addition to wine, this place also distills brandy and moonshine. Stop by for free tastings Saturday between noon and 6 p.m. or Sunday between noon and 5 p.m. to try their award winning vino.
You'll enjoy a scenic hour and a half drive as you make your way to the state's most popular falls next. The best thing about this place is that it's actually two waterfalls in one. Known as the largest falls in the state by volume, it consists of an upper and lower section that are separated by about a mile. The Upper Falls has a 20-foot plunge as well as a charming covered bridge nearby. You'll likely want to spend a few hours exploring this place.
The Sycamore Winery
The last, but most certainly not least, trek of the best day trip you'll ever take in Indiana leads you to a beautiful paradise of blue skies and rolling vineyards. In business since 2017, this magnificent place doubles as a gorgeous event venue and is ideal for weddings. The wine tasting room's spring hours are noon to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday as well as noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The place specializes in wines made from fruits other than grapes, such as peaches and strawberries, and it also specializes in beer and cider.
