The Dixie Family Restaurant in central Illinois is situated in a small town near Bloomington-Normal just off I-55 on the way to or from Springfield.
This incredible truck stop diner is one of the famous eateries on old Route 66. It was established as Dixie Truck Stop in 1928 when it was merely a sandwich stand and mechanic's shop.
It has since grown into a full restaurant with seating and buffet-style dining that locals love more than any other place in this tiny town of just about 800 residents.
Dixie Family Restaurant is open Monday through Friday between 5 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. as well as Saturday and Sunday between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m., and you can get more details on its Facebook page.
