Galena is a charming resort town in northwest Illinois that just about everyone in the state has at least heard of before. For those who are familiar with the town's allure, it won't be a surprise that it has the most enchanting main street in the state.
Winter, in general, is a wonderful time to visit the town as the snow turns it into a whole new world.
Even without the decorations, Galena's downtown is a stunning place to find yourself. It is very vintage and features a wealth of old-fashioned shops and restaurants that will make you smile.
Stop by this December to peer into the festive windows and enjoy the firs and lights strung all around town. Galena starts the holidays with a fireworks display on December 1, 2018. The event is called Holiday Fire in the Sky and it features carolers, hot cocoa, raffle prizes, and activities for kids.
The best window displays will be available December 8, 2018 during Night of the Luminaria and Living Windows. More than 30 scenes will fill you with the spirit of the holidays as you walk down this half-mile enchanting main street.
Locals and guests also enjoy 5,000 candlelit displays on the streets. Carriage and trolley rides let you tour the lights from the comfort of a seat.
