Chestnut Mountain Resort, in Galena, is a popular destination for outdoor and adventure lovers all year around with its many activities - from summer segway tours to winter skiing.

One of the most popular summer activities, the alpine slide, is sure to give you an adrenaline rush as you zip down the side of the mountain.

Climb onto the slide, and get ready for the 2,500-foot ride right down the side of the mountain to the edge of the Mississippi River.

The views from the alpine slide are simply sensational all year around. However, they're jaw-dropping during the fall foliage.

If you're bringing the kiddos along on the epic adventure, they'll have to ride with an adult if they're younger than seven and shorter than 48 inches.

Zip down the mountain slide on one of the remaining full weekends of October. After that, it will shut down until next spring.

After your journey down the mountain, slip into a chair lift for a ride back up the mountain - a breathtaking sight, especially at this time of the year.

If you're up for even more fun after that, go on a tour of the mountain on a segway, or fly across the sky on a zipline.
