When you think of magical places to visit throughout the country in the winter, the Peach State likely doesn't come to mind. Sure, the North Georgia mountains get snow on a regular basis, but it's still not the several feet that you might see in New England or the Midwest. In much of Georgia, it's not unusual to even be able to wear shorts at Christmastime! Many people are surprised to learn that it does snow in Georgia, at least in some parts of the state. We have plenty of winter parks in Georgia worth a visit that are magnificent and oh-so-scenic, and you'll often find them covered in snow! If you're hunting down things to do in winter in Georgia, we think Vogel State Park in Blairsville is an amazing escape. Check it out:
Vogel State Park spans 233 acres. It's tucked away right at the base of Blood Mountain. There's quite a bit of forested land here, as it's right in the heart of the Chattahoochee National Forest.
The park is immensely popular to visit in the fall. All of the mountains here look stunning when surrounded by beautiful foliage. However, we've got to say, we think this park is even prettier when it snows, and is one of the best places to visit in Georgia in winter.
Vogel State Park's 22-acre lake is a magnificent scene when covered in a blanket of snow.
The little city of Blairsville averages around 5 to 6 inches of snow each year. If you're looking to see Vogel State Park all covered in white, make sure to keep an eye on the weather forecast.
There are miles of trail here, and there's plenty of space to explore, no matter what season it is. The fact that it's winter in Georgia doesn't mean you have to stay cooped up inside!
