The Georgia Lookout Point With Majestic Views Year-Round
Blood Mountain offers a challenging hike with stunning views from the highest peak on Georgia’s portion of the Appalachian Trail.
The Northeast Georgia region has so many beautiful mountains that make for incredible hikes. One of our favorites is Blood Mountain, which is the highest peak along Georgia's portion of the Appalachian Trail. This hike is no joke: it's definitely not for beginners. However, all the miles and elevation distance will be worth it when you reach the top of the mountain. The vantage point from Blood Mountain is absolutely incredible. It's one of the most gorgeous lookout points in Georgia. When you look out at the landscape around the mountain, you'll be struck by the beauty of the Peach State, no matter what time of year it is.
The Blood Mountain and Freeman Loop hike will take you practically straight up into the clouds. You'll rise up 1,555 feet over about six miles.
The elevation gain is pretty steep, with very sharp ascents and descents. Novice hikers will not want to attempt this, nor should anyone not wearing proper hiking boots.
The view from the mountain's peak is so beautiful it's practically indescribable.
You can see for miles up here, and looking out over the landscape will make you feel on top of the world.
Hiking along this route will take you through a small segment of the Appalachian Trail.
Hiking the entire Appalachian Trail is not practical for most people, so this is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a difficult hike and get a small taste of what that incredible experience is like.
Blood Mountain's peak is just under 4500 feet high, making it one of the tallest mountains in Georgia.
It's a lot of effort to get to the top, but the reward is well worth it.
