The story of the Old Rittenhouse Inn begins in the 1890s. The Queen Anne Victorian home was built in the summer of 1890 in Bayfield as a vacation residence.

It’s a spectacular home, built from native Lake Superior brownstone, creamery brick, and shingles. It’s a true “painted lady” with seven different hues of paint.

In 1973, the grand old home became Wisconsin’s first bed and breakfast, and today the current owners still welcome guests to the inn and to the home’s dining establishment.

The rooms on the main floor originally served as the kitchen, formal parlor, family room, and dining room – the space has been transformed into the Landmark Restaurant.

The staff serves house-made breakfast, lunch, and dinner to guests and the public at one of the most unique places to eat in Wisconsin with Lake Superior Views!

It’s a beautiful and timeless place for a meal and the menu serves made-from-scratch upscale American and French cuisine.

Serving breakfast and dinner - we recommend the Cinnamon-swirl French toast or the Quiche with spinach and caramelized onions for that early morning meal.

While lunch is not a regular offering at the inn, the staff does cater to large groups with a scrumptious three-course Victorian lunch or brunch.

Guests start with a salad and choose from three entrees, such as Apple Glazed Pork, Reddened Lake Superior Trout, or Grilled Chicken Breast with Bayfield Raspberry Sauce. Classic Landmark desserts complete the outstanding meal.

The restaurant is also a great place for dinner offering seasonal favorites and frequent menu changes based on the availability of locally raised ingredients and the freshest produce.
