Did you know the concept of curbside food service was invented right here in Texas? Pig Stand revolutionized the restaurant business, and one location still remains in San Antonio. The first drive-thru restaurant in Texas still has cars lining up around the corner, and it's easy to see why.
Pig Stand revolutionized fast food by inventing the concept of curbside service in 1921. A drive-thru window was added shortly after, and the rest was history.
Although the flagship store in Dallas no longer stands, this San Antonio location built just a few years later is still going strong. It's the last remaining Pig Stand in America, all 130+ other franchises have long since shut their doors.
Inside, you'll find an authentic 1950s diner frozen in time. Checkered tile, red vinyl booths, and an open kitchen bring back memories of Friday nights at the local soda fountain. Paying homage to the restaurant's name, there's even an adorable collection of ceramic pigs on the counter top.
Play your favorite classic tunes on a real, old-fashioned jukebox. Nothing quite compares to the nostalgia evoked by listening to the music we all grew up on.
This is the Pig Sandwich, an original invention that made its debut 92 years ago. The most tender BBQ pork you've ever tasted is sliced and served on a bun with relish and special sauce. Make it a combo, which comes with French fries, coleslaw, and onion rings.
Skimping on the most important meal of the day isn't an option here. Omelettes, breakfast tacos, pancakes, and several other hearty selections are the perfect start to any morning.
Other Texas staples like ribs, chicken-fried steak, and even liver & onions are also available. Click here to see a full menu.
Not hungry for a big meal? Just stop by to indulge in a hand-spun milkshake, root beer float, or banana split instead. It's like childhood all over again.
For more information, you can visit Pig Stand's website or Facebook page. You'll find the restaurant at 1508 Broadway St., San Antonio, TX 78215.
