Wine. Isn't that what gets you up in the morning? Because we're pretty sure that's our game plan...here in Tennessee, there's actually a WINE THEMED TRAIN that is everything your heart desires. Climb aboard in Nashville and take the train out to the DelMonaco Winery, speeding through the gorgeous Tennessee countryside and end up in the heart of the state. There's no prettier way to explore your home state, folks.
The Tennessee Central Railway offers excursion trains from downtown Nashville to the beautiful DelMonaco Winery, just outside of Cookeville.
Though DelMonaco has only been in operation for a little over ten years, their wines are top-notch. Be sure to take time to sit on one of their patios and take in the beauty of their 18 acres of vines.
You'll be able to taste DelMonaco's wines on the way to the winery. Once you get there, the winery offers tours of their facilities, lunch, and even live music!
The trip itself lasts about ten hours, but runs through some of the most beautiful landscape along the way. We recommend trying to find a trip in the Fall or Spring to take in the seasonal foliage.
Tickets vary in price by the class of seat you get. First Class tickets cost $65, but seats in the dome car, a car with a glass domed ceiling, cost $150 per seat. The price is absolutely worth it though, as this is by far the best way to see the beautiful scenery on the way to the winery.
Excursions happen every few months or so, so be sure to keep an eye on the TCR website for the next trip.
If wine's not your thing, but you still want to ride the train, don't worry. While this may not be the excursion for you, the Tennessee Central Railway offers plenty of other excursions -- some even geared towards kids! Be sure to check out their website to find the trip that's right for you.
When you get off the train, you may just want to explore The Hiking Trail Hiding In Tennessee That Will Transport You To Another World.
