I Found a Brunch Spot in South Carolina With Chocolate Pancakes the Size of the Plate

Plus, the mimosa flights and egg sandwiches are positively mouthwatering.

You had me at breakfast. It's my favorite meal, especially on a weekend morning when I have nothing to do besides indulge in all of my favorite foods and sip a mimosa. When I travel to South Carolina, I love to indulge in delicious brunch-style eats at BaKon Southern Eatery in Chapin. After my first time dining here, I dreamt about coming back, and have made this surprise strip mall spot in South Carolina my go-to for amazing bacon, eggs, and larger-than-life chocolate chip pancakes.

BaKon Southern Eatery Boasts Amazing Vibes Inside

At BaKon, don't be surprised if there's a line when you arrive. While it moves rather quickly, there's also a huge patio area out back to accommodate even more people if you choose not to sit inside. Inside, however, you'll find rustic, farmhouse decor in a bright, airy, high-ceiling room. There's a small waiting area for guests, plus a coffee bar to DIY your own beverage. I typically reach for the Southern pecan iced coffee and jazz it up a bit with some flavorings.

The Menu Options Are Delicious and Diverse

This South Carolina breakfast spot's menu is very straightforward when it comes to food. Brunch and breakfast offerings are aplenty, from French toast and pancakes to chicken and waffles and egg and biscuit sandwiches. Lunch also has a robust menu of southern favorites like crispy fried catfish, fried green tomatoes, and even a twist on deviled eggs.

During my first-ever visit, my party decided to order and split a bunch of different meals—aka my favorite way to dine. After trying a little bit of everything, my favorites came down to the following, in no particular order:

The Egg and Cheese Biscuit

BaKon's classic egg and cheese biscuit is one of the best I've ever had. It's airy, buttery, and its pillowy density upon my first bite kept me wanting more. The sandwich's egg portion is huge, and everything from its melted cheese to its hot sauce worked together harmoniously. Pro tip: add a side of hash browns to complete the dish, or some bacon to slide into the sandwich.

The Chocolate Pancakes

I couldn't believe the size of these pancakes when they arrived. It was truly a sight. Two gargantuan chocolate chip pancakes, the size of the massive plate, drowning in toppings. This was pure decadence on a plate. Also, a crowd favorite when the table comes with hungry children looking for a sugar rush.

The Cinnamon-Sugar Hush Puppies

I have to say, I've never had hush puppies quite like this—they're divine. Reminiscent of a state fair food (think funnel cake), these fried cornmeal hushpuppies are rolled in cinnamon sugar and paired with a scrumptious honey butter. Perfect for sharing at the table as you wait for food.

The Mimosa Flight

You can't go wrong with a mimosa flight on a Sunday morning, right? Here at BaKon, you have your pick of juice to choose from, ranging from your classic orange and grapefruit to even more interesting flavors like passionfruit and mango. You can mix and match or just get one flavor for the table to share; the options are seemingly endless.

This Hidden South Carolina Gem Is Worth Repeat Visits

I absolutely love returning to BaKon Southern Eatery for its classic Southern food, cozy atmosphere, and fresh, delicious mimosas and coffee. I love to revisit my beloved egg and cheese biscuit and the mimosa flight before a day of exploring Chapin. This is a true strip mall surprise that anyone in and around Chapin should check out when hunger hits or a sleepy weekend arrives. This food will satisfy the soul and some.
