They say big things come in small packages. We believe adding a quirky twist adds even more excitement to that small package. This restaurant in the Palmetto State dishes up a heaping share of both; it's small and quirky. It may not look like much, but the food is outstanding!
Callie's Hot Little Biscuit is about as quirky as they come. It's literally built in what should have, or would have, been the parking spot for a Charleston Single House. More precisely, it's built between the house and the commercial building next door. It may be the skinniest restaurant in town.
Callie's Hot Little Biscuit opened their doors in 2015 on upper King Street in Charleston, an area of town that started being revitalized more than 20 years ago.
In all, there couldn't be more than nine feet or so to the width of this quirkly little place. But any shortcomings in space are completely offset by the food. Take a look.
Oh, the food! Callie's HLB makes all of their biscuits from scratch right in this tiny little eatery every single day. The freshness is evident the first time you sink your teeth into the masterpiece you've ordered. Someone in this photo above ordered the Sausage, Egg and Fiery Pimento Cheese Biscuit. Yum!
If you're not in the mood for a huge biscuit, then you can order a mini. On the other hand, if you can't decide which biscuit you want, then you can order a sampling of minis and try several.
The grab-and-go eatery does have seating - six seats, to be precise. You can see them on the left in the above photo.
Breakfast isn't the only thing you'll find at Callie's HLB. Lunch is served until 2:00 p.m. daily.
With daily and seasonal specials like the Fried Chicken Biscuit and the Shrimp and Grits Biscuit Bowl, Callie's changes up the menu often by adding some Southern-infused menu items.
And some other amazing specials, like the Bacon Biscuit with Avacado shown above...
...or the Avacado Mash with Roasted Tomatoes. Wait, did they just put a salad on a biscuit? It's pretty close.
Don't be surprised, or put off if you arrive at Callie's only to find a line of people waiting to order at the counter - and a line of people all the way to the back wall. The ones past the register are just moving toward the pick up window to get their order. Most people don't care if there's a line. It's funny how good food can dictate your mood, even when you're waiting in line.
Callies HLB is located at 476½ King Street in Charleston on the part of King Street that has traffic lanes traveling in both directions. You usually can find a parking spot nearby.
With a storefront that's about as wide as your two arms can stretch, this tiny little eatery may not look like much, but Callie's Hot Little Biscuit is amazing.
