Visit Leah & Louise, A Modern Juke Joint In North Carolina With Food To Soothe The Soul
Leah & Louise in Charlotte offers innovative Southern cuisine in a historic, repurposed factory setting at Camp North End.
Finding a new favorite place to dine could be as simple as paying a visit to a modern juke joint in Charlotte known as Leah & Louise. Aside from the innovative Southern-inspired menu, the history of the locale is a another reason to love this eatery. It's found at Camp North End, which is comprised of 67 acres of repurposed buildings and warehouses whose former lives included a 1924 factory for the Ford Motor Company that would go on to build more than 300,000 Model T and Model A cars in this very spot. Later, the US Army took over the facility and added five more warehouses so this locale could serve as a Quartermaster Depot. Later, during the Cold War, the government would redirect the focus here to building missiles - and this would be from where the name Camp North End was derived, or at least the "camp" part. Camp, or CAMP, was short for "Charlotte Area Missle Plant."
Today, Camp North End is a trendy spot with restaurants, shops, galleries, and event spaces. One of the restaurants, Leah & Louise, opened at the start of the pandemic in 2020 and has quickly won the hearts (and taste buds) of locals and visitors alike.
The menu features a number of Southern dishes made from ingredients that are predominantly locally-sourced.
Three different menus divide up the items into breakfast (served Saturday and Sunday starting at 10:30), Lunch (served Thursday and Friday from 10:30 to 3:00), and dinner (served Wednesday through Saturday from 5:30 to 10:30).
From a smoked, fried chicken breast sandwich to blackened catfish, oxtail stew, salads, and much more, this Southern menu is one that should not be missed.
The lunch menu even includes an item with a PWYC (pay what you can) designation. It's just like it sounds... pay what you can - because Leah & Louise wants to make sure everyone in the community has the opportunity to dine out at their restaurant no matter their social or financial status.
When it comes to a dining experience that's great for the soul (as well as the taste buds), Leah & Louise is it.
Leah & Louise is open Thursday through Sunday from 10:30 - 2:30 and Wednesday through Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
No reservations are needed. Also, please note, this eatery only accepts credit or debit cards and no cash.
