Those of you who keep up with Only In New York should remember that not too long ago we spoke about how one of our state's amazing brewpubs was just recognize for its amazing craft beer. If you're unable to make it out to the Finger Lakes though, don't worry because this isn't the only watering hole worth checking out in New York. Down in Rockland County, there's a historic tavern that maintains colonial charm that you can't find just anywhere nowadays. So, who's ready for a trip back in time and some good drinks?
Located in the historic town of Tappan, The '76 House dates all the way back to 1668 and is a local treasure.
Considered to be one of the oldest taverns in our country, you can find The '76 House listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Step inside New York's oldest tavern and you'll find plenty of seating within the different dining rooms that they have here.
Creating a wonderful atmosphere that takes you back in time, the dining rooms feature fireplaces and other details that add to its character like the pewter plates that they use.
Up at the bar the historic decor continues, always giving your eye something to look at while you're enjoying a great-tasting drink.
But one of the most fascinating things about this bar in particular is the fact that according to history, General George Washington stood at this very railing that you see today in The '76 House!
