This Timeless Restaurant In New York Has A Fascinating History

Aaron Burr was the third Vice President of the United States. He's best known for killing Alexander Hamilton in an 1804 duel.

Hamilton shot up into a tree, and the fact that Burr fatally shot him was considered extremely unsportsmanlike. He never held another public office after his Vice Presidency term ended. He has gained recent notoriety for being a character in the immensely popular musical "Hamilton."

Before he served as Vice President, Burr was an Attorney General in New York in the 1790s. His horses were stabled at the carriage house that is now One If By Land, Two If By Sea.

The building has a fascinating history even beyond its use as housing for Burr's horses. It was used as both a brothel and a silent movie house.

Today, it is a stunning restaurant. The dim lighting and antique decor give it a vibe that is fitting for such an old building.
