I have to admit, I've passed this place up. I noticed the vibrant blue exterior and made a mental note...maybe this place is worth writing about. It turns out, it is. Though there's some fierce burger competition in New Jersey, this newer kid on the block (opened in 2010) holds its own. It may not be legendary like White Manna (yet), but it definitely has a bright future.
Here's the story...Stephen Chrisomalis Jr. always wanted to own a business. He decided to start small, opening a 17 seat roadside burger stand with a very modest menu - burgers, fries, and hot dogs.
Over the years the business, and the menu, grew.
These days, they've got everything from fried oreos to fantastic cheese steaks...and their own sodas.
But of course, you have to try the burgers. The basic burgers are great, but we'd go with the gourmet options.
Go for the Willy Burger, with Swiss cheese and onions or the Jersey Devil (NJ Devils) with cheese, peppers, onions, and hot sauce. Also try Steve's special sauce, with mayo, peppers, relish, Frank's Red Hot and sriracha.
You're sure to have a good (budget friendly!) meal here. And while it may be located right along a highway...
You can always head to the "beach" out back!
So, while this place is easy to pass up when you're driving 45 miles per hour down Route 46, we recommend that you don't. Stop in, try something new. You can find Steve's Burgers at: 506 US-46, Garfield.
