Fables Restaurant At New Jersey’s Iconic Fairy Tale Forest Is Now Open

New Jersey’s Fairy Tale Forest has reopened with Fables Restaurant offering outdoor dining and takeout.

The reopening of New Jersey's iconic Fairy Tale Forest has been greatly anticipated for months... years, even! It was a quintessential part of our childhoods between 1957 - 2005 and was missed by many when it closed. In 2011, there were whispers of renovations and reopenings. Several years later, the project began in earnest. The park is now ready for visitors with one small setback...a pandemic. Though the timing is unfortunate, all hope is not lost. Fables Restaurant, located on the property, is now open for takeout and outdoor dining, weather permitting.

You may remember Oak Ridge's Fairy Tale Forest like this...

Or you may remember Fairy Tale Forest more like this...

But whether you visited in the '60s or the '90s, you likely remember it as a magical place that delighted the imagination.

Founder, German immigrant Paul Woehle, his children, and local craftsman spent 4 years designing a fairy tale wonderland inspired by the Brothers Grimm. There's a castle, giant shoe, and so much more to see...

You can enjoy a bit of the park's magical atmosphere if you decide to dine at Fables. It is currently open for socially distanced outdoor dining and curbside pickup.

You'll be treated to delicious food with a side of nostalgia, and the occasional pop-up veggie market.

The menu changes weekly (it's open on Fridays and Saturdays) and includes options like Maine lobster roll, pretzel crusted pork schnitzel, grilled mahi-mahi soft tacos, burgers, vegan burgers, and plenty of ice cream.

You can keep up with their menus, reopening plans, and other relevant information on their Facebook Page. You can order online by visiting their website or calling 973-697-5656. Open for a few weeks now, the eatery has garnered rave reviews from diners!
