It’s An Epic Garden State Adventure Eating Pasta In An Antique Store In New Jersey
For those of us who love Italian food, the odds are we could live here in the Garden State our whole lives and not try everything. Still, even in the best spot for pasta and pizza in the country (in my humble opinion), I still manage to be surprised once in a while. That's definitely the case at Di Palma Brothers in North Bergen, which might be the most unique Italian restaurant in NJ - or the whole country. The food here is excellent - big, hearty portions of Italian classics - but that's not the surprising part. That comes in the setting, as what looks like a typical neighborhood restaurant on the outside gives way to a quirky interior that feels more like a rummage sale or antique store than a restaurant - because it actually is. Read on to discover why you might be leaving Di Palma Brothers with much more than a full stomach.
From the outside, Di Palma Brothers might not make anyone pull into the parking lot from looks alone - but those in the know, know!
As soon as you step inside, the idea that this is a standard neighborhood joint will melt away.
This is a busy, bustling restaurant filled with hundreds of vintage pieces of furniture, decorations, and quirky knickknacks - all the while, with diners happily dining among them.
It might feel a bit crowded, but that doesn't mean the food will be shrunk down - the portions here are massive.
Of course, there's plenty of pasta here, with some of the best sauces in the state. Our mouths are watering from looks alone!
The veal milanese might be the most eye-catching dish here, coming to the table covered in a tangle of greens.
But don't leave immediately when you pay - take a look around. You might find your next favorite piece of house decor. That's right - most of the oddball items here are actually for sale!
