No matter where you travel throughout the state of New Hampshire, you'll surely come across the most lovely little mom-and-pop shop. Whether you're in a small town or a bigger place like Portsmouth, there's a ton of local flavor to be enjoyed. And we mean that literally! There are great locally-owned restaurants, general stores, and cafes in every corner of the state. I love these spots and I'm always on the lookout for something especially unique and delicious. Newfields Country Store in Newfields is one of my favorites. It's got just about everything you need, including some of the best sandwiches and treats you've ever had!
Located right on Main Street in Newfields you'll find Newfields Country Store. Sometimes referred to as Newfields General Store, this spot has been a cornerstone of the community since 1896. And, it's one of the best places to grab a bite in all of New Hampshire.
The history of this spot is just one of the many reasons to love it! Just about all of the other reasons include the tasty Newfields Country Store menu.
That menu includes some of the best lunch options you've ever had, including the most unique, delicious and gigantic sandwiches.
Each day brings another special sandwich and they change all the time. We recently loved seeing this one, featuring Boar’s Head turkey pastrami or corned beef, melted gouda, honey mustard, arugula, and coleslaw on a ciabatta roll.
It would be impossible to list each and every one of our favorites here, but let's take a look at just one more special. This one featured grape chicken salad with fresh herbs, cheddar cheese and arugula on anadama. Perfection!
Of course, lunch can't really be enjoyed unless it's finished with a sugary treat and that's the other reason we think you'll love what many people consider the best general store in New Hampshire.
From cookies to cupcakes to pies and cookies, you can't possibly leave here without dessert.
Especially when you consider the fact that they're also cooking up inventive things like this Almond Joy brownie. It comes with toasted coconut buttercream and it's even gluten free!
And, you absolutely won't want to miss out on the whoopie pies.
Those who think small-town New Hampshire doesn't have the same offerings as the larger towns and cities are certainly missing out.
Newfields Country Store is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. They're closed on Sunday and Monday. Before visiting, check with the store to confirm they're open as these hours may change.
You can learn more (and see plenty more Newfields Country Store photos of sandwiches you won't want to miss!) by following them on Newfields Country Store on Facebook.
This spot is certainly worth traveling for and we highly recommend adding this as a stop on a long weekend road trip. While you're in the area, consider visiting the Squamscott Vineyard And Winery, which makes a great addition on a warm day.
