With More Than 100 Acres Of Conserved Land, Flag Hill Winery & Distillery Is The Largest Winery In New Hampshire

Flag Hill Distillery & Winery in New Hampshire is the largest winery in the state and has a rich history dating back to the 18th century.

In my younger days, I was more of a beer drinker but I also did enjoy a good glass of wine from time to time. Living near a local winery was an introduction to how the art of independent wine-making differed so drastically from the bigger mass-produced varieties. The care and time it took to make each wine just right was clearly evident in each glass. We are fortunate to have lots of wineries in the Granite State, and one winery in New Hampshire is unique for a few reasons.

Flag Hill Distillery & Winery in Lee has the distinction of being the largest winery in the state with 110 acres of land.

The land has been continuously farmed since the 18th century and was originally a dairy farm. Winemaking began here in 1987 when the first grapes were planted.

Flag Hill also has a unique place in history as being the first legal distillery in the state after the repeal of Prohibition.

Flag Hill was the state's second-ever winery to open. It is forever protected under a conservation easement for future agricultural use.

The winery creates hybrid varietals that are more resistant to New England winters, such as De Chaunac, Marechal Foch, Vignoles, Cayuga White, and La Crescent.

In addition to fine wines, Flag Hill also grows grain for its distillery and fresh vegetables for special events.
