My Family Loves The Breakfasts From This Classic New Hampshire Diner With A Giant Moose Statue

One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to check out the local diners. Pancakes, French toast, and scrambled eggs are some of my top comfort foods to eat any time of the day. Last year on a trip to summer camp, my family and I discovered a wonderful little diner hiding in the little town of Sanbornville. Miss Wakefield Diner & Gracie's Country Store was a great find that we will definitely be returning to on all of our travels up north!

Miss Wakefield has been a fixture on Route 16 since 1961. This spot is hard to miss!

Once you catch sight of the 10-foot wooden moose statue in the parking lot, you know you are in the right spot.

The building is part classic diner and part local gift shop.

The process of ordering food at Miss Wakefield’s is a bit non-traditional. We entered the building through the gift shop entrance and walked up to the counter to put our names on the waitlist. After we did so, we were given a menu to look at and were asked to place our order before being seated.

We found the display of muffins and sweet treats to be very enticing. My son decided on a pistachio muffin while the rest of us ordered traditional breakfast meals.

As we waited for a table, we spent time perusing Gracie's Country Store. The classic New Hampshire gift store was full of candy, t-shirts, and lots of fun Granite State souvenirs. There were also some homemade gifts and local food products.

We didn’t have to wait very long to get a table. Our hostess led us to the diner portion of the building and set us up at one of the booths overlooking the parking area. There was also seating at the counter.

Miss Wakefield is an authentic 1949 Jerry O. Mahoney diner. The company manufactured 2,000 dining cars from 1917 to 1952. The Miss Wakefield Diner is one of 20 that remain standing today.

As we took in the sights of retro advertisements, vintage photographs, and an old-fashioned jukebox, we knew we had found a special spot.

Because we had ordered ahead of time, our meals came quickly, and man they were good! I devoured my pancakes and the rest of my family dug into their eggs, French toast, and muffin.

Everything was plentiful and delicious. Our server was also very friendly and helpful. We finished our breakfasts and left the diner with full and happy stomachs! As we headed on our way, we waved goodbye to the giant moose, vowing to visit again next summer.
