This Old-Fashioned Montana Saloon Has The Most Creative Mac & Cheese Menu Ever

Whether it's the middle of summer or the dead of winter, we love our comfort food here in Montana. And if your favorite comfort food happens to be mac & cheese, we hope you've had the good fortune of enjoying a meal at the Windbag Saloon & Grill in Helena. Between the almost 140-year-old building, the friendly service, the charming ambiance, and the tasty food, this place is always a good time -- and if you happen to love mac & cheese, it's heaven on Earth.

The Windbag Saloon opened in 1977, but the building's history goes back much further.

Originally constructed in 1882, it served as a bowling alley, a movie theater, Helena's last bordello, and a burlesque hall. The building is part of St. Louis Block in downtown Helena and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The space has been fully renovated, and it's spacious, modern, and comfortable inside.

The saloon is an all-ages eatery, so young Montanans are welcome here.

To put it mildly, the menu here is the stuff dreams are made of.

From appetizers like Brothel Bites (deep-fried enchiladas sliced into bites) to BBQ Brisket Nachos, sandwiches, and burgers, The Windbag Saloon has it all.

Of course, the vast majority of the patrons come for the mac & cheese.

Here, mac & cheese isn't just a menu item, it's an experience. There's an entire section of the menu dedicated to it, and it's all made to order.

While the classic mac & cheese is delicious, most guests enjoy the more creative options.

There's Buffalo Chicken, Black Forest Ham & Broccoli, and more, plus specialty items like Mango Habanero.

Sometimes you'll be lucky enough to dine on an especially creative evening.

The Windbag Saloon has specials almost every day of the week -- but if you love mac & cheese and Moscow Mules, you should go on a Monday.

Every Monday, all macs are buy one, get one free, and Moscow Mules are a mere $5.
