All weather is ice cream weather in Montana. Rain or shine, snow or storms, you'll find many of us delving into a bowl of deliciousness from Big Dipper Ice Cream. And if you have a major sweet tooth and a huge craving, you might be brave enough to tackle their giant Super Nova Sundae. It just might be the most outrageous dessert in the Treasure State.
Big Dipper Ice Cream has locations in Missoula (where they originated), Billings, and Helena.
The shop has received national attention numerous times over the years, but it remains a beloved local treasure.
Big Dipper stays open all year, offering scrumptious seasonal flavors.
Choosing just one or two flavors is as impossible as it seems.
The shakes and malts here are - by far - some of Montana's best.
You can substitute chai or espresso for milk if you need an extra boost.
If you're looking for something a bit bigger and more creative, you can go for a sundae or a split...
...and if you're really, really hungry, ask for a Super Nova Sundae.
The Super Nova is served in an actual bucket! It consists of six scoops of ice cream, two giant brownies, and a whopping six toppings.
If you're able to eat this entire sundae yourself, you'll be rewarded with a bumper sticker that says "I can't believe I ate the whole thing."
Needless to say, you will not see many of these bumper stickers on cars. Six scoops and two brownies are a lot, even for the biggest dessert lover.
Regardless of what you order, you'll never be disappointed with your choice at Big Dipper Ice Cream.
They've been serving their handcrafted ice cream since 1995, and Montana wouldn't be the same without them.
Could you finish a sundae that size? You can find the current Big Dipper menu here.
