You Have to Try the One Dish That Made This Buzzy Montana Spot Legendary
This Missoula restaurant serves pancakes that you'll crave long after that last bite.
Growing up, every Saturday morning, my family had pancakes for breakfast. Now, as a mom of young children, we eat a lot of pancakes in my home. It is something every family member can agree upon, and even my young daughter will devour a stack of pancakes with ease. That’s why I love places like Paul’s Pancake Parlor in Missoula. This delightful mom-and-pop restaurant on Brooks Street is a place that every member of the family will love. Here, you can order breakfast, lunch, or dinner, but just as its name suggests, it’s pancakes are the stars of the show.
Paul’s Pancake Parlor first opened its doors in 1963 and quickly made a name for itself. Today, it is owned by Mike Ramos, a Missoula local who bought the restaurant in 1998 from his mother, under the condition that he work there daily for at least one year to ensure he knew the restaurant in and out.
Today, you’ll still enjoy the same great quality and fabulous service as you did in the restaurant’s early days. As you walk inside, you’ll find an establishment that’s modern, yet with artwork and décor that offer strong nostalgic vibes. This is the type of place where you can sit down for a delicious meal and stay for a while—and you'll certainly want to.
Paul’s Pancake Parlor is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. No matter what time you visit, you’ll find a menu packed with many choices. For lunch and dinner, you can choose from burgers and sandwiches, and each option includes your choice of soup, salad, fries, or tater tots. There are also full entrée dinners like chicken-fried steak and taco salads.
However, if you are like me, the breakfast menu is where you may focus all of your attention. Breakfast is served all day, and there are dozens of dishes ranging from breakfast burritos and French toast to waffles, cereal, and several types of omelets.
However, you must try the pancakes. There are more than 18 types of pancakes on the menu including buttermilk, chocolate chip, spiced, banana, buckwheat, sourdough, and blueberry sourdough. If you can’t make up your mind, try the Paul’s Sampler, which gives you one buttermilk, one sourdough, one chocolate chip, and one blueberry pancake. Most pancake options come in a stack of four, and depending on the type you choose, the toppings on your stack will vary.
In addition to this Missoula restaurant's famous pancakes, you can also try the rolled pancakes. These delicious dishes are topped with whipped cream and your choice of fruit compote or flavored butter, such as strawberry, blueberry, apple, or peach. I love to add a filling to my rolled pancakes, which is available for an additional charge.
With so many options, give yourself plenty of time to choose at Paul's Pancake Parlor. However, it’s impossible to make a poor decision here. Just don’t be surprised if you find yourself ordering from here multiple times, especially the pancakes. They are just that good.
