Mississippi is packed with charming small towns, each home to its own unique personality, dining hotspots, quirky shops, and natural beauty. But there’s a tiny town just outside of Jackson, Mississippi that’s hiding one of the best-kept secrets in the Magnolia State…especially if you’re a meatatarian! Craving a prime rib, ribeye, or hearty T-bone this week? Look no further than the iconic H.D. Gibbs and Sons in Learned MS. You wouldn’t think so by the looks of it, but this unassuming restaurant is arguably the best steakhouse in Mississippi, and if you ask, it belongs on your bucket list.
You may have never heard of Learned, Mississippi before. After all, the tiny town outside of Jackson is home to fewer than 100 people.
It's closer to about 50 people, actually.
This little town is where you'll find H.D. Gibbes & Sons.
Don't let the unassuming exterior fool you; some of the best steaks in Mississippi are on the other side of that door.
The building dates back to the late 1800s when it was a general store that folks in the community could swing by and stock up.
Over a century later, and the business is still family owned and operated. In 2009, the menu got an upgrade...and boy, that changed everything!
Now in its fifth generation, the same family continues to provide a homestyle spot for locals to gather and eat well.
And boy, do they gather!
In fact, they come from miles around.
No frills, all flavor is the name of the game here.
The H.D. Gibbes & Sons menu is packed with carnivorous favorites: pork chops, steaks, and ribs pepper the menu here.
Not what you'd expect judging by the building's exterior, right?
From lamb chops to 16-ounce hand-cut ribeye, the menu here reads more like you're at a 5-star white tablecloth type of restaurant!
You don't need a fancy environment to eat like royalty, and H.D. Gibbs and Sons in Learned, MS, a rustic but incredible steakhouse, proves it!
All that said, there's even more to love about this hidden gem than the food. The service is incredibly friendly - they never seem to forget a face here!
And you'll find plenty of antiques and vintage relics around the property and town to admire.
So pony on up and stay awhile!
