11 Foods Every Marylander Craves When They Leave Maryland

Maryland offers unique local foods that are hard to find or replicate out of state.

If you've ever left Maryland, then you know that there are some local foods that are impossible to find out of state. And if you do happen to find things like crab cakes, they just don't taste the same. Here are 11 Maryland foods that you should never take for granted because you never know how much you'll miss them until they're out of reach.

1. Steamed Crabs

Sure, the west coast has steamed crabs, but they're not blue crabs and they're not seasoned. Nobody makes 'em like they do in Maryland.

2. Crab Cakes

Some surrounding states may claim to have "Maryland style" crab cakes but they likely taste nothing like the real deal.

3. Maryland Crab Soup

Whether you like the original or cream of crab, this warm and spicy soup is delicious year-round.

4. Sno-ball

Summer doesn't feel complete with a sno-ball from a tiny roadside stand. Top it with marshmallow and you've really got a treat.

5. Bergers Cookies

These began in the Baltimore area and now Marylanders all over enjoy these chocolate-topped cookies. It's impossible to eat just one.

6. Fisher's Popcorn

There's nothing like fresh Fisher's Popcorn straight from the source. This is a must-try snack while in Ocean City.

7. Utz Chips

What's summer without munching on a handful of crab chips?

8. Smith Island Cake

This iconic cake originated on Maryland's Smith Island. Today, you can find it at many area restaurants, making for the perfect and filling dessert.

9. National Bohemian

Also known as Natty Boh, this beer is the perfect pairing with steamed crabs or any sporting event.

10. Orange Crush

If you prefer your booze on the fruity side, ditch the beer and order an orange crush. Many Maryland restaurants serve this drink up just right, but good luck ordering it out of state.

BONUS: Old Bay

While technically not a food, this seasoning is sprinkled on almost everything in Maryland. If you're ever moving out of state, make sure to stock up.
