This Rustic Barn Restaurant In Maine Serves Up Heaping Helpings Of Country Cooking

The Barnhouse Grill & Pub in Wiscasset, Maine, offers a unique dining experience with a blend of American, Mexican, and pub-style cuisine in a charming, rustic barn setting.

Along our eastern border, Maine is filled with lovely coastal towns up and down the Atlantic. There's a certain charm that comes from coastal towns; these make up the very fabric of our state. But as much as the ocean influences the way of life up north, we also have a rich history in agriculture. When those two meet, you know that you have captured the essence of what it is like to be in the Pine Tree State. That is precisely what you'll find at The Barnhouse Grill & Pub Wiscasset, Maine. It marries the two sides of our state very nicely, and some may even make a case for it being the best country restaurant in Maine. It's certainly among the best in this little ocean town.

In 2021, while businesses were closing their doors throughout the state of Maine, there were times when things felt uncertain and scary. But, despite the anxiety many of us felt there was some hope when the Barnhouse Grill and Pub Wiscasset opened its doors.

The restaurant opened to great reviews and has been doing well ever since. It is always good to see a place rise up when the situation looks bleak. Undoubtedly, a lot of hard work went into taking an old barn and converting it into a dining experience.

Inside, you will be entering a nostalgic yet brand-new atmosphere that feels right at home in Maine.

The whiskey barrels and exposed wood work well together, and the metal sheets on the wall just add to the rustic charm. The lighting is dim and creates a mood that is perfect for this old barn, and that very atmosphere will pull you in every time you step into the room.

The menu boasts some pretty unique items. You won't just find American-style country cooking, but you will also see a good variety of Mexican cuisine.

Specialty quesadillas like the Shrimp Hawaiian are especially tasty. It comes with grilled shrimp, black beans, pineapples, and gooey cheese oozing out of the soft tortilla wrap.

Pub fare is another popular choice on the menu. You can start off your meal with the Farmer's Knot, which is a massive soft pretzel served with queso and honey mustard.

If pretzels aren't really your thing, then the Mac and Cheese Balls might be the perfect way to start your meal.

There are plenty of all-American options at The Barnhouse restaurant, too.

Specialty burgers of many varieties can be ordered, like The Villager. This burger is perfectly American with a thick ½-pound beef patty, bacon, fried onion rings, cheese, pickles, and smothered in sweet BBQ sauce.

For another country cooking option, you simply can’t go wrong with a good old southern classic - chicken and waffles. Add a little bacon and powdered sugar and your taste buds are on a trip down south.

When the weather is warm, the outdoor seating area is the best place to be.

Not only can you enjoy a great meal here, but check ahead to make sure you join in for some live music. They host open mic nights and bands throughout the summer months, and you won't want to miss out.
