The Made-From-Scratch Donuts At This Maine Bakery Have Stood The Test Of Time
The Cookie Jar bakery in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, is renowned for its delicious homemade donuts and vintage charm.
Donuts! We love 'em! From colorful frosted ones to sprinkle ones to the kind that are braided into a crueller. There's nothing like a sugary, flaky, delicious donut. The only thing better than a delicious donut is a homemade Maine donut and today we're telling you about one of our favorite spots to find them.
The Cookie Jar bakery has been a Cape Elizabeth institution since the 1950s.
The vintage-feel and the homey vibes make it one of the best places to fuel up for a sugary morning in Maine.
While it's changed hands a few times over the years, it's been owned and run by the Piscopo Family since 1972.
The delicious cake-style donuts have been made using the same recipe for decades.
It's not uncommon for people to come back after moving away only to declare that the place is exactly the same - down the smell of the donuts baking!
It's welcoming and bright, just like it alway's been.
But let's get back to the stars of the show - the donuts.
They come in a variety of flavors - ranging from the simple glazed version.
To cider donuts in the fall.
To the perfect, gooey jelly donut.
We recommend loading up on a dozen for a chance to try them all.
The Cookie Jar Bakery is located at 554 Shore Rd., Cape Elizabeth. They're open Monday through Saturday 6 a.m to 6:30 p.m and on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check them out online or give them a call on 207-799-0671.
Another great spot? This one in Kennebunk has been around since 1945. And it's still just as good as it was on the day they opened!
