The Oldest Restaurant In Louisiana’s Sportsman’s Paradise Is A Culinary Masterpiece

Herby-K's in northern Louisiana offers authentic, delicious Louisiana cuisine and has been a local landmark since 1936.

One of the many amazing things about Louisiana is that we know our way around a kitchen. So many Louisianians grew up in the kitchen, learning recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation, and if we’re lucky, a few of them end up on menus at local restaurants. If you find yourself in the Sportsman’s Paradise region (northern Louisiana) then you have to pass through Herby-K’s, one of the oldest restaurants in the region and it’s home to some truly delicious, authentic Louisiana food.

It might not look like much from the outside, but Herby-K’s has been a local landmark since 1936.

The family owned and operated eatery hasn't changed much over the decades, and that's part of the experience.

Herby-K's is a no-frills, all-flavor type of joint. Casual and family friendly, Herby-K's is all about what's on the plate, and trust us, it's worth a road trip.

From oysters to frog legs, the menu here highlights all the incredible dishes Louisiana is known for.

In addition to Louisiana favorites, you'll find a few American classics that you'll want to try, including their beastly burgers and club sandwiches.

Start your meal off with one of their tasty appetizers, like marinated crab claws, fried pickles, or if they're in season, oysters.

Be sure to pace yourself, because the portions are very generous and you've still got a lot of food coming your way.

You can't mention Louisiana food without talking about the po'boy, and Herby-K's has some of the best po'boys outside of New Orleans.

Get a cup of gumbo on the side for the full experience.

Speaking of po'boys, their most famous dish sheds a new light on a traditional po'boy, and you've got to try it.

The Shrimp Buster was put on the menu in 1945 and it's been the most popular item ever since. It's like a shrimp po'boy, but so much better. The shrimp are butterflied before being fried to a golden brown and served with their signature Shrimp Buster sauce, coleslaw, and fries. If you like shrimp po'boys, you'll love this version.
