This Is The Most Hippie Town In Kansas And You Need To Visit

Lucas, Kansas is a small town known for its quirky art installations and free-spirited community.

Kansas is full of hundreds of little towns, each with their own personality. Have you ever wanted a place for free spirits and artistic ways of life? Well, there's an entire town in Kansas made up of people and attitudes just like that! Of course, some of you have heard of it before, but why not share with everyone the uniqueness of this little hippie town?

Do you recognize this little place from above? It's Lucas!

It's a city in Russell County that holds about 400 people these days.

The weird art you see here is but a sample of what Lucas has going on all over town.

It's a wonderful place for free thinkers, oddballs, and weirdos of many kinds. Of course, you can plainly see that wherever you go, with whoever you meet. The people here are both quirky and friendly, and are used to people gawking around at the local art installations.

The giant decorative plate is a popular spot for photos, as it represents the whole town.

Every little section here is claimed by a different area or artist in Lucas that has changed their town for the better.

There's also the public toilet shaped like a giant toilet.

It's rated the #2 public restroom in America, though I'm still trying to figure out if that's also a joke.

The outside and inside is decorated with mosaics of many colors.

Not just colors, but also objects. Everything from faces to cups to little toy cars dot the walls inside and around this giant toilet.

It's not uncommon to see an oddly decorated vehicle, either.

Whether it's the ChewBaru Art Car, or one covered in toy dinosaurs melting into tar, who knows what you'll see next in this town of artists and well-meaning folk.

Of course, a trip to Lucas isn't complete without visiting S. P. Dinsmoor's Garden of Eden.

Visit during its open hours, and you can walk through the garden and even see the artist slowly decaying in his glass coffin in the Mausoleum (the small building on the left.) How's that for unique?

There are so many places to immerse yourself in the happy-go-lucky spirit floating around everywhere you look.

However, when you're done with the Grassroots Art Center and other happy little pieces of art, the K-18 Cafe is the most "normal" place here. It's a great place where you can get amazing home cooked food just like you remember from childhood.

Why don't you come down and explore this little hippie town and its free-to-be-you attitude?

Here's a map to help you find this amazing little town, if you're looking for an adventure.

Of course, another great small town in Kansas is one that just happens to be filled with amazing restaurants at every turn. Come check it out!
