I've been to a couple of horror-themed bars and eateries in my lifetime, and they never disappoint. It's not just because I'm a coffee and horror fan; I just think themed restaurants or bars can really elevate an experience when they go all out.

The shop's décor, featuring monster murals and display cases brimming with horror figurines and memorabilia, fully embraces the theme. Owners Nick Mayor, Jen Lemasters, and Jason Deuchler opened The Brewed after a few months of renovations.

Mayor says he believes Chicago is the perfect location for a shop like The Brewed, because the city “has a rich horror community and a deep-rooted history with the genre, most notably with films like Candyman, along with many other lesser-known gems.” To this end, The Brewed also hosts a Monster Movie Club that its patrons can join and sells thematic merch. Be sure to pop in at Bric-a-Brac Records and Gifts, next door—it's The Brewed's sister shop.

The Brewed is not just about its horror-themed trappings. They have deliciously good roasted coffee and homemade treats to really round out the experience. The Brewed offers a selection of locally sourced drinks and snacks, featuring coffee, a wide range of teas, pastries, and sandwiches.
