Finding a place to eat in Chicago is not a hard task. After all, there are over 8,000 restaurants spread throughout the city's 234 square miles. But if you are looking for a spy-themed restaurant in Chicago just off the Magnificent Mile, you’ve got to get yourself to SafeHouse Chicago. First opened in 2017, the establishment’s mission is to provide visitors with great food and drink surrounded by an interactive espionage theme.
Editor's note: Unfortunately, Safehouse Chicago is permanently closed.
The first thing you'll notice after entering this mysterious restaurant?
The close attention to detail to its theme. It’s a real must-see for fans of the spy genre, both fictionalized and real.
Kids (and kids at heart) will love exploring the restaurant’s various spy-related décor and objects, such as secret doors, a scavenger hunt, and a laser maze. And the staff is also part of the entertainment.
We don't want to give away all the fun and secrets of SafeHouse Chicago, but there are definitely lots of goodies!
In between your mission to examine the spy world and all of its components, be sure to sit down and grab something to eat or drink or both.
There are lots of options for finger foods, burgers, full entrees, salads, and vegetarian meals.
Most everything on the menu has a fun name attached to it, so be sure to read the descriptions. You may not recognize such names like Bird Watcher or the Kingsman at first glance.
For appetizers, there are Fried C4 Cheese Curds, Stasi Twists (pretzel bites), Thunderballs (meatballs), and more.
Among the different sandwiches to choose from include Agent Igor Gouzenko (brisket) or the SR-71 Blackbird (blackened chicken).
Burgers are big here too. Consider the Mission Impossible, the plant-based Smersh Burger, or the Moab (with a fried egg), just to name a few. Or order some Blowback BBQ Ribs or the Furtive Fish Fry.
There is also a variety of some healthier options, with salads like the 007 Layer Salad or The Big Green C (Caesar salad) and bowls like the Bay of Pigs or Chicken Tikka Mata Hari.
There is also an assortment of entrees, like A License to Kill Mac & Cheese, as seen below.
And for the young ones, the kid's menu features fun meals like the Golden Gun Grilled Cheese or Goldfingers.
Don’t forget to leave room for something sweet and decadent for dessert!
Choose from several unique creations like The Italian Job (vanilla cake with mousse) or Top Banana Longboat (banana split).
Just like the food and atmosphere, the drinks are also pretty unique. Try a specialty cocktail like Agent Chi (Maker’s Mark, amaretto, and pomegranate juice), the bourbon drink known as Sterling Archer, or their mule, Man with a Copper Mug.
There are also several different types of martinis, beer, and wine to choose from.
