I Just Discovered My New Favorite Burger Joint in Idaho and Everything Here Is Massive

This is one burger joint where arriving hungry is essential.

One thing about me is I’m a burger snob. I don’t waste my time on mediocre hamburgers. I want burgers that are cooked to perfection, pack lots of flavor, and are large. I’ve been on the hunt for the best hamburger in Idaho Falls, Idaho, for several years, and while there are a few burger joints that I certainly recommend, Burly Burger just opened in the area, and I’m a fan. In fact, Burly Burger is my new favorite burger joint in Idaho, and that’s a title I don’t give easily.

Burly Burger started in Northern Utah and currently has four locations throughout Davis County. The Burly Burger in Idaho Falls is the first location outside of the Beehive State, and it has quickly gained popularity in southeastern Idaho. It opened its doors in November 2024, and I've already visited multiple times.

As its name suggests, Burly Burger specializes in hamburgers. But … these aren’t your typical hamburgers. The Burly Burger website tells you that they “... won't settle for wimpy little burgers … our goal is to make sure you leave satisfied or stuffed with some leftovers on your face!”

And they live up to their promise.

Burly Burgers' menu features a variety of brisket burgers that are each topped with lettuce, tomato, onions, and a special burly sauce (If you are familiar with fry sauce, you'll find many similarities.). Aside from the Classic Burly Burger, all of the burgers on the menu are named after a famous burly man. For example, you can choose from The Rock, The Duke, The Farley, and even The Swanson.

My favorite is the Mr. T, a burger piled high with pastrami, Swiss cheese, and burly sauce. It’s delicious and massive. In fact, I have yet to finish an entire hamburger here. All of the burgers are almost too big to eat. On my last visit, my husband ordered The Farley, a burger topped with buffalo chicken strips (yes, chicken strips on the burger) and blue cheese dressing.

And it isn’t just the burgers that are massive and delicious. There are also chicken sandwiches and salads on the menu. The battered fries are my favorite, and you receive so many that I usually have to share. Oh, and the milkshakes! Each shake sits high above the rim — it’s quite impressive, actually. Everything here is so good that you won't want to leave a single morsel behind.

While Burly Burger is already known for its massive portions, it is also known for The Brigham Food Challenge. If you are willing to accept the challenge, you will need to eat 10 burly burger patties topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and fry sauce, as well as a large order of fries and a large milkshake all by yourself. This is a food challenge I already know I’d lose … but I know a few teenage boys who are considering it!

Fun fact: The Brigham Food Challenge is named after Brigham Young, the first governor of the Utah territory and the second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Brigham was a practicing polygamist, and legend says that he had 10 wives, all named Patty.

While I certainly love the food at Burly Burger, it’s not the only reason I enjoy visiting this burger joint in Idaho Falls. The vibe in this restaurant is casual, a bit rustic, and extremely friendly. I loved the décor on the wall, including the giant image of a burly man and the burly meter. It’s certainly not a large restaurant and is typically so busy that people regularly wait for open tables. But I believe it is well worth the wait.

Yes, I’m a burger snob, but the options at Burly Burger passed the test. I highly recommend this restaurant. Just make sure you come hungry. You’ll thank me later.

If you are like me and need to move your body after a massive meal, I recommend a hike in the Idaho Falls area. Cress Creek Nature Trail is my favorite kid-friendly trail in southeastern Idaho.
