If you ask someone to think about what sort of food they'd want to eat if they could only eat one food for the rest of their life, burgers might be pretty high up on the list. After all, there's such a wide variety of foods within that one simple label. "Burger" could refer to a gargantuan multi-patty tower of cheesy meat, or it could mean a tiny little two-bite slider. Nowadays, the term is even more broad, with restaurants offering up beef alternatives like turkey, chicken, meat substitutes, or even tuna. Whatever type of burger you prefer, we feel pretty confident in saying that you can get it in Georgia. It was a tough list to cull down, but we've gathered up five of our favorite burgers in Georgia that we think just so happen to also be among the best burgers in the South. Check them out:

1. The Vortex: 438 Moreland Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30307 | 878 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, GA 30309

This place is magical, especially if you love huge burgers. The Vortex is famous for its Quadruple Coronary Bypass, which is as massive as it sounds... It's a 6.5-pound monstrosity that's one of the largest food challenges in Georgia.

Don't worry - if you've got a smaller appetite, there are plenty of smaller burgers here that are just as tasty and won't run you thousands of calories!

2. Sly's Sliders and Fries: 1710 Abercorn St, Savannah, GA 31401

Going from one extreme to the other, you won't find any massive burgers at Sly's Sliders and Fries. This charming little place serves up adorably delicious sliders that pack a lot of flavor into a small dish.

Sly's serves up traditional beef sliders, but you can also get some more unique choices, like a falafel slider or a salmon slider. The restaurant currently only has one location, in Savannah, but is planning an expansion.

3. The Red Eyed Mule: 430 South Marietta Pkwy SE, Marietta, GA 30060

The Red Eyed Mule has a unique name and a wonderful menu. This place is famous for its breakfast, but you won't want to miss the burgers either.

The Red Eyed Mule has been delighting Marietta residents for over a decade. This place specializes in six-ounce Black Angus ground chuck burgers, but you can also get black bean burgers here.

4. Farmhaus Burger: 466 Flowing Wells Rd, Martinez, GA 30907 | 1204 Broad St, Augusta, GA 30901

Farmhaus Burger has two locations in Augusta. Here, you can build your own burger or pick one from the menu.

If you're not a fan of burgers, you can also get wings, salads, or sandwiches here. But the burgers are pretty tasty!

5. Groove Burgers: 1791 Oconee Connector #510, Athens, GA 30606

Groove Burgers has been locally owned and operated for five years.

The food here is fresh and made from scratch each day. There are vegetarian options as well as beef. The sweet potato chips are delicious!
