If you enjoy restaurants with lots of character, look no further than Bobby D's BBQ in Jerome. This timeless eatery is located in a building that dates to 1899, and the historic charm is almost palpable -- and as for the food, you'll be reminiscing on the tender, slow-smoked meats for years to come.
Established in 1899, the building that now houses Bobby D's BBQ was originally The English Kitchen. It was known as the best Chinese restaurant in Jerome, which delighted owner Charley Hong as his first restaurant was engulfed by a devastating fire. Ownership has changed hands several times over the years, and the building has been everything from a pizza parlor to a theater.
Before closing down in 2007, The English Kitchen was the longest continuously operated restaurant in Arizona. Four years later, Bobby D and his sister Kathryn enlivened the building once again with finger-lickin' good, pecan-smoked BBQ.
If you've never eaten at Bobby D's before and can't decide what to order, the baby back pork ribs are always a solid choice. Thick-cut and slow-smoked, they're fall-off-the-bone perfection. Alternatively, you can opt for the rib plate, which also comes with pork, brisket, or chicken.
The brisket is smoked for 12 hours, resulting in the most tender, flavorful meat you can imagine. All BBQ entrees are accompanied by cornbread and one side.
Bobby D's is equally well-known for their sandwiches, and it's easy to see why. From BBQ chicken to classic ham and cheese to the "Arizona Cheesesteak" made with smoked beef brisket, these bad boys are absolute taste sensations. You'll also find a variety of burgers on the menu, patties weighing in at a quarter-pound each and served on a fluffy brioche bun.
An extensive drink menu boasts wine, draft beer, and handcrafted cocktails. Whether you like a good old-fashioned Bloody Mary, prickly pear margarita, or "Arizona Sunset" featuring coconut rum, there's something for everyone. You can even get an apple pie flavored shot!
Sit inside or grab a spot on the patio, which overlooks the sprawling hills of Jerome. History, delicious food, and unparalleled scenery -- what more could you want out of a restaurant?
