Spring House, Florida’s Only Frank Lloyd Wright-Designed Private Home Is A True Feat Of Engineering
You don’t need to be a huge architectural fan to have heard the name Frank Lloyd Wright at least once in your lifetime. Wright was an American architect, designer, and educator who designed more than 1,000 structures over 70 years of work. With notable accomplishments like Fallingwater and the Guggenheim Museum, it’s hard not to be impressed by his innovation. However, there is only one private home in Florida that was designed by Wright throughout his career! The good news is you can still tour it! Come see why Spring House in Tallahassee is still a true feat of engineering.
Spring House, also known as Lewis Spring House, is an engineering and architectural marvel designed back in the 1950s by Frank Lloyd Wright.
The “hemicircle” is both concentric and intersecting circles that end up resembling a boat. Pair that with the unique wooden features, this marvel is really something to be seen in person.
Lewis Spring House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 14, 1979. Today, visitors are able to take a tour of the property on certain days.
The Spring House Institute, Inc., which was formed by the family, hopes to restore the property with the help of the public, in order to preserve the legacy of both the Lewis Family and Wright.
Come take a personal tour and see for yourself why restoring this engineering and architectural feat is so important, especially for the history of Florida.
