Everyone In Florida Should See What’s Inside The Walls Of This Abandoned Home

There aren't too many places like this in the world. This is why when we find a really unique, off-the-beaten-path attraction that we feel deserves recognition and an add to the ol' Florida bucket list, we want to shout it from the rooftops. While there are many different abandoned places throughout Florida that are worth perusing, this one might just be the most fascinating yet. Check out this abandoned dome home in Florida and learn all about what makes it so unique.

Editor's Note: Unfortunately, since the time of publication, what was left of the Cape Romano Dome Houses was destroyed by a hurricane.

Built in 1981 off the southern tip of Marco Island you’ll find the abandoned Cape Romano Dome House.

This igloo-like concrete structure is comprised of white dome structures all set on stilts within the turquoise blue water.

Now decaying, this abandoned home slowly slips into the depths of the ocean, but not without visitors being able to get in their boats or motorized watercraft and explore at their leisure.

It’s hard to believe once you survey the location as well as the structure that people actually inhabited the dome house and called it home for many years.

Believe it or not, the dome house was not intended to be built in the water at all.

Due to the changing shoreline from various weather patterns and rising sea levels, the dome house eventually shifted location bringing it further out to sea.

Now, all that inhabits this abandoned dome house are nesting sea turtles and various diversified undersea wildlife seeking refuge and residence.

While today, guests are still able to take a trip out to the abandoned dome houses off Marco Island, it is worth noting that two of the western domes have collapsed since Hurricane Irma.
